Nook Vase
Nook Vase
The Nook Vase takes the idea of a vase to being an important part in the visual composition of botanical display. The carefully placed circular cavity juxtaposed onto the slim oval-oid form adds to a fresh aesthetic direction in vase typology. Be it a single flower stem, a small set of wildflowers or even a found leaf worthy of display - Nook complements all.
Nook is part of a series of objects developed over an year with highly skilled and awarded Bidri craftspeople from Bidar, Karnataka. Over the entire collection, details studied from a recorded history of Bidri objects have been re-interpreted in a modern context.
The craft of Bidriware involves the inlay of pure silver (or other soft metals) onto the surface of a cast nickel alloy form which is subsequently oxidised to a rich black colour leaving the inlaid silver untouched and in stark contrast. The process dates back to ancient Persia and carries the globally recognised Geographical Indication tag.
The Nook Vase received a nomination in the EDIDA (Elle Decor International Design Awards) India Awards 2017 in partnership with Sunil Sethi Design Alliance.
