OID Box (Pentagonal)
The OID set of boxes are based on form studies originating from the triangle, the square and the pentagon. Simple shapes can often result in intriguing and inviting forms that can add a sense of pleasure to their intended function. In terms of the embellishment, the idea has been to touch upon the rich ornamentation history of Bidri-ware and yet appeal to a modern audience that seeks and appreciates contemporary objects from traditional origins.
OID boxes are part of a series of objects developed over an year with highly skilled and awarded Bidri craftspeople from Bidar, Karnataka. Over the entire collection, details studied from a recorded history of Bidri objects have been re-interpreted in a modern context.
The craft of Bidriware involves the inlay of pure silver (or other soft metals) onto the surface of a cast nickel alloy form which is subsequently oxidised to a rich black colour leaving the inlaid silver untouched and in stark contrast. The process dates back to ancient Persia and carries the globally recognised Geographical Indication tag.

The OID Boxes are winner of the Tabletop Category at the EDIDA (Elle Decor International Design Awards) India Awards 2018.
